West Exe Youth 1-8 Exmouth United: United seal promotion with a great win!

A superb team effort saw Exmouth United clinch promotion after their tenth win in a row! And just a point off securing the league.

They began against West Exe showing that they meant business - striker Bryn Stephens linking excellently with wingers Jay Leballeur and Kuba Strzalkowski from the very start. When Leballeur's free kick came to Stephens his shot put United in to the lead. Next it was Strzalkowski who stabbed in a rebound from a Stephens strike.

West Exe soon found a foothold in the match and created chances but midfielder Finn Glanfield gave them no time with his excellent tackling and keeper Lewis Alford was alert to any shots that came his way with some strong saves. Notable performances also came from full-backs Seb Harrison and Tom Price with two strong displays.

United Captain Dylan Mogford, known for his defensive work, was next to shine when he executed a perfect feint and slipped the ball to Lewis Evans who picked out the corner with a splendid strike. Mogford then produced some sublime skill to drift past 3 defenders and blast in with his left.

After half-time West Exe hit back with some good link-up play. Luckily for Exmouth, Leballeur then turned on the style and made it 5 with a wonderful solo effort down the left wing - skipping past two defenders and slotting past the goalie. Next it was Cayleb Field who struck with the outside of his right foot when set up by a nice turn from Stephens.

Seb Harrison made numerous marauding runs down the left wing with some exquisite skills and linked up well with his team mates in the middle. He created a number of opportunities and continued to feed Owen Brady who was promoted to striker from centre-back. Brady left it late before seizing his moment when he smashed in a right footed volley after setting himself up with a neat header.

Remarkably, it was not the last for Exmouth as keeper Leballeur ventured up front in the last minute and managed to score a superb effort from the edge of the box. Well played everyone!

Happy with promotion!

Copplestone Colts 0-3 Exmouth United

Exmouth United marched on to another victory away at Copplestone Colts to maintain their grip on top spot of the Exeter and District Youth League Under 12s Division 2.

Exmouth made a slow start and 5 minutes in had conceded a penalty when they handled the ball on the line. However, glovesman Lewis Alford watched the ball fly wide of his right-hand post and it remained all even. United soon grew into the game and began creating chances after some great link-up work on the right flank from Jack Greaves and Bryn Stephens. The match remained evenly poised and the next significant action involved a fantastic flying save from keeper Alford to frustrate the home side. Central defensive duo Dylan Mogford and Harry Kifli-Reynolds remained composed at the back and worked the ball well into midfield.

At half-time it remained 0-0, an evenly balanced game played by two quality sides. Exmouth continued their passing and started opening up the Colts defence. Their first chance was a superb give-and-go between Lewis Evans and Cayleb Field in which Evans' poke-shot sat tantalisingly on the line after hitting the post. A few minutes later the deadlock was broken when midfielder Finn Glanfield set up Evans who slotted the ball past the keeper from the right side of the area. United upped the pressure and their next joy came when left-winger Kuba Strzalkowski cut inside past two defenders before teeing up Jay Leballeur who dispatched a fine strike into the net.

Lewis Evans shoots at goal. He hit the post and scored in an excellent second-half performance.

Full-back Harry Bassett made some great runs to support the attack - linking up well with Stephens. The final goal came when Seb Harrison broke forward from central midfield and ran at a defender before releasing the perfect through-ball for attacker Cayleb Field. The striker hit a superb effort to make the net bulge and seal the 3-points.

The match was played in a friendly and competitive spirit. The players should be proud of their excellent attitudes, hard work and great football.

Exmouth United 2-1 Exeter Panthers

United came through a massive test as they ran out 2-1 victors at home against the impressive Exeter Panthers. The first half saw Panthers take the upper hand with some excellent passing football and they took the lead after 15 minutes. However, after a formation change United began to create chances and when Kuba Strzalkowski picked out Cayleb Field the striker made no mistake, rolling the ball onto his left foot and smashing it past the keeper. It was Field who struck the second after running through on goal and delivering a peach of a strike into the corner of the net.

The second half was a hard fought affair. Both teams gave 100% and battled for every ball. Panthers shaded the possession but some stand-out performances from defenders Tom Price, Owen Brady, Harry Bassett and Jack Greaves kept them at bay. This made it 8 wins in a row for United who go top of the table with this result.

Exmouth United 14-2 West Exe - Fantastic Four for Field!

Another superb demonstration of passing football and clinical finishing against West Exe made it 7 wins in a row in the league for Exmouth United.

In a largely one-sided match, ending 14 (fourteen) - 2, there were goals for Cayleb Field (4), Kuba Strzalkowski (3), Finn Glanfield (2), Lewis Evans, Seb Harrison, Jay Leballeur, Dylan Mogford and Tom Price. Exmouth's quality showed throughout with some highly impressive support play and defensive resolve from Harry Bassett, Harry Kifli-Reynolds, Jack Greaves, Bryn Stephens and Lewis Alford.

With too many chances to mention three performances deserve special attention. Firstly, Field (see photo) was outstanding with two goals in each half as well as two assists. Alford, normally positioned between the sticks, put in a masterful show at centre-mid orchestrating some excellent passing moves. Finally, Tom Price had a remarkable second-half including a spell as keeper during which he made a wonderful save from a West Exe free kick. He then pushed up front and struck a perfect left-footed shot to bag his first goal of the season!
